Many of us young parents still stay with our parents at our homes and some of our parents still believe that traditional medicine is the way to go. They were raised using traditional medicine and some of us were raised that way too. Problem is, we youngsters don't believe in this kind of medicine. I personally would not choose to burn "impepho" when my child is sick but would take him to the hospital but what do I do if my grandmother tells me that as long as I am under her roof I'll do things her way and that I should give the child a mixture of roots and water and he'll be fine? Do I go against her and take the child to a medical doctor or do I obey her and do as she says.
This becomes really confusing because as much as we are parents we are still our parents' children too. So who makes decisions about OUR children, us or our parents?
Hay khona, Traditional medicine is so ancient. We the new generation don't believe in it and we do not use it. My child will always go to the doctor when she's sick, no muti for her. Never!
