Temper Tantrums

We all have bad days every now and again and toddlers are no exception. The only way toddlers know how to express their anger and frustration is by throwing temper tantrums. They do this in various ways like kicking and screaming, throwing things around or even hitting other people.

My nephew had a very strange tendency when he was a toddler. Whenever he got angry or if things did not go his way he would run crying, throw himself down and bite the ground. I used to find this very amusing and would sometimes rub him the wrong way intentionally just to watch him do this, I didn't know any better.
As much as temper tantrums are normal there are some warning signs you should look out for as a parent. These could concern your child's mental health and quality of life.Wakschlag says temper tantrum signs that could indicate a red flag are:
 * Your child's temper tantrums seem to come out of the blue.
 * Temper tantrums that last longer than five minutes.
 * Tantrums that are physical (hurting himself/herself or others and breaking things)
 * A pattern of extreme temper tantrums

Nancy Gottesman on her blog, New Parent Advises that if you spot these signs you should seek help. Speak to your pediatrician who may recommend a child behaviour specialist. Learn more tantrums
